HOW MUCH IS YOUR POOL REALLY COSTING YOU ?

The price to build a pool is important to many home owners searching for the perfect pool and the perfect pool builder. Quality, workmanship, and service are also important but is there a cost difference AFTER the sale? Many home owners do not think about the cost of owning a pool. At Martin Pools, the cost of owning a pool is just as important as the cost of building a pool.

Compared to the single-speed pump, the variable-speed pump proves to be more efficient not only in keeping the pool cleaner by running 24 hours a day, but also in it’s energy cost savings. How can this be possible?

THE COMPARISON

Standard, 2 HP Pump                                                                                                                                             Pentair Variable-Speed Pump

-Pumps 80 Gallons Per Minute (GPM)                                                                                                                       -Pumps 20 to 160 GPM
-Uses 2 KW of power per hour -                                                                                                                   Uses .07 to 1.64 KW of power per hour
-Runs average of 8 hrs/day                                                                                                                  -Runs 24 hrs/day (20 hrs at .07KW and 4 hrs at 1.64KW)
-Skims surface and cleans floor 8 hrs/day                                                                                           -Skims surface 20 hours and cleans floor 4 hrs/day
-Surface debris during 16 hour “stagnant”                                                                                     -Surface debris is skimmed 20 hrs/day, keeping it from

THE COST
Assuming electricity is $.10 per KW, here are cost comparisons for each system:

Standard, 2 HP Pump
8 hrs of operation at 2 KW per hour 20 hrs of operation at .07 KW + 4hrs at 1.64 KW =$583 per year

Pentair Variable Speed

 16 KW hrs/day x 365 days per year x $.10 = 1.4 KW + 6.56 KW = 7.96 KW hrs/day x 365 days x $.10= $290 per year

But it doesn’t end there….
The typical in-floor cleaning system only takes 60 GPM to operate efficiently. With a 2 HP pump, there is no ability to adjust down the GPM, virtually wasting 20 GPM and the energy it takes to produce that. With the Pentair Variable-Speed pump, the GPM can be adjusted down to avoid this waste. With that in mind, it only takes .81 KW of power to run the Pentair Variable-Speed pump at 60 GPM. Let’s re-calculate the yearly expense:

20 hrs of operation at .07 WK + 4 hrs of at .81 KW = 1.4 KW + 3.24 KW = 4.64 KW hrs/day x 365 days x $.10=
$169.36 per year

With the Pentair Variable Speed pump, a pool owner with the average cost of electricity of $.10 per KW can save up to $414 per year in energy costs! THATS $4,000.00 in ten years!!!

But there is more!
Did you know that chemicals rise to the top of a pool when the water sits stagnant? Pool owners with a single speed pump generally run the pool in the evening hours, leaving the pool stagnant during the hottest part of the day. Chemicals are then burned off by the hot Arizona sun. A pool in constant circulation prevents such chemical loss, saving you money in chemicals as well!

With a Martin Pool, you get a cleaner, more efficient pool, saving you time and money throughout the life of your pool.
